Sananga
What is sananga?
Sananga is a healing eye drop formulation used extensively throughout the Amazon. It originally comes from a shrub native to the upper Amazon. The bark and root of this shrub is harvested, dried, and ground into a fine powder. Afterwards, the powder is added to water which is then strained multiple times until the desired potency is attained. The strength of the solution will depend upon the manufacturer.
What are the benefits of using sananga?
Some of sananga’s many benefits include improved eyesight, decalcification of the pineal gland, decreased inflammation, and whole-system support. It has been shown to help decrease the frequency and duration of headaches, clear disruptive thought patterns, and support the immune system in optimal functioning. Many people report feeling more grounded and present internally after application of sanaga.
How is sananga applied?
To begin, I will invite you to lie down. Then, I will quickly apply one drop per eye. You will likely feel a strong burning or prickly sensation and your eyes may immediately water significantly, but those side effects should subside within a few minutes at most. Focus on your breath and allow the sensations to be without making any effort to change them. Afterward, you may find that you are more sensitive to light than usual, which can last for up to 30 minutes. The clarity gained through the use of sananga may be quite a bit longer lasting.
What else may be helpful to know?
I believe one of the greatest benefits of working with sananga is the way in which it supports the mind in separation pain from suffering. There’s no two ways about it - the experience of sananga is a strong and sometimes briefly painful one, but by staying attentive to the breath and remaining present with the sensations, we begin to realize the suffering was largely in our own perception, not the experience itself. Sananga is a wonderful teacher for this, and while it’s not for everyone, I do highly recommend it to those who are interested.
